My PvP XP

Player versus Player (PvP) combat is one of the most exciting parts of the game. Fighting other players requires quick thinking, deep class knowledge, and fast reactions. This page details my personal Player versus Player experience (XP) since 2004, including battleground achievements, arena rankings, and my favorite strategies.

My Early Battles in Alterac Valley

When battlegrounds were first introduced, Alterac Valley was a massive, epic zone where forty players from each faction would clash in battles that could last for hours.

  • The Scale: We had to capture towers, capture graveyards, and defeat enemy commanders to slowly drain the opponent’s resources.
  • The Tactics: As a Priest, my main job was to stay behind our tanks and keep everyone alive while they pushed the front lines. I had to manage my mana carefully because getting caught without mana meant instant death.
  • The Earning: Through constant participation, I earned the prestigious title of Field Marshal. This required weeks of dedicated play and coordination with other Alliance players.

Arena Success in the Burning Crusade

With the release of the Arena system in the first expansion, PvP became much more competitive. The focus shifted from massive battles to small, coordinated skirmishes.

  • The 3v3 Bracket: I focused on the 3v3 arena bracket, which is widely considered the most balanced and competitive arena mode.
  • My Main Team: I played a Priest alongside a Rogue and a Mage. This is the classic “RMP” team setup, which relies on heavy control and fast damage setups.
  • The Coordination: As the healer, I had to watch the positioning of both my teammates and the enemy team. I used my psychic scream ability to fear the enemy healer, allowing my Rogue and Mage partners to defeat the target without any interference.
  • The Title: Our coordination paid off, and we reached a peak rating of 2200, earning the Duelist title.

My PvP History Over the Years

I have continued to participate in rated PvP in every expansion. Here is a summary of my peak achievements and roles across different seasons:

What I Have Learned from PvP

Fighting real players is very different from fighting boss monsters. Boss monsters follow a script, but players are smart and unpredictable. They will try to trick you, interrupt your heals, and target your weakest teammate. To win, you must learn how to anticipate their moves.

  • Fake Casting: Start casting a healing spell, then stop it immediately to trick the enemy into wasting their interrupt ability. Once their interrupt is on cooldown, you can heal safely.
  • Pillar Humping: Use the pillars in the arena to block the line of sight of enemy casters. If they cannot see you, they cannot damage you.
  • Defensive Triggers: Do not wait until your health is low to use your defensive cooldowns. Use them when you see the enemy team using their offensive spells.
