2011 marks the 300th anniversary of Vivaldi’s early masterpiece L’Estro Armonico, a collection of 12 concerti grossi that pushed the boundary of baroque instrumental music. In a series of concerts during December 2011, the Sebastian Chamber Players will present a program interweaving selections from Vivaldi’s L’Estro Armonico with newly composed reflections and reactions by composer Robert Honstein.
Mr. Honstein’s work will take its cue from the Vivaldi while also being firmly grounded in a contemporary style and practice. Over a series of interspersed interludes, elements of the Vivaldi will be deconstructed and reassembled in a prismatic collage of baroque and modern fragments. These reflections and refractions will create a powerful new context for the original Vivaldi pieces, forging unexpected connections between old and new music.
There will be two public performances, one open rehearsal, and one workshop with students from Connecticut College. Dates and times of awarded events will be confirmed soon. Please contact The Sebastian Chamber Players (link below) with questions.
