Established in 1968, the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust was a vital force in the New York City music scene. Four decades of inspired and thoughtful grantmaking have enriched the city's musical vitality, impacting organizations of every size and every style of music.
In June 2009 the Cary Trust ceased operations and distributed a portion of its assets to a select number of music organizations in New York City. These gifts were given to ensure supported organizations would continue their vital work in the spirit of the Cary Trust. Meet The Composer received, among its closing grants from the Trust, major endowment support for its commissioning activity, currently the Commissioning Music/USA. program. This lasting gift will ensure that a steady stream of new work continues to emerge year after year.
As a further testament to the Cary Trust's commissioning legacy, Meet The Composer has added over 300 works commissioned with support from the Trust to its own repertoire database, ensuring that this legacy is known and available to the music community and the public at large.
